Departing 8th November 2015, we were delighted to join the official Agatha Christie Cruise Line, along with fantastic guest speakers and performers to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the world-famous writer’s birth. Guests included Agatha Christie’s grandson, Mathew Prichard, and Julius Green, the author of Curtain Up: Agatha Christie – A Life in Theatre, who presented informative and insightful talks about the well-loved writer.

On this wonderful autumn cruise on board Balmoral, guests soaked up soothing sunshine in beautiful destinations off the coast of Africa, calling at magnificent Madeira and four different Canary Islands on four consecutive days. There was also a call to the delightful Portuguese capital, Lisbon. Then heading to fragrant Funchal – the capital of Madeira – where senses were stimulated in the stunning botanical gardens infused with floral scents; riding the cable car to discover incredible panoramic views from high above the city; and enjoying an afternoon tea at Reid’s Hotel before heading to the charming Canaries.

A day was spent in Santa Cruz from where guests embarked on unforgettable adventures into the heart of Tenerife’s volcanic landscapes to visit the mysterious Pyramids of Guimar and see Mount Teide – Spain’s highest mountain – and headed to the coast to relax on golden sands and watch dolphins swimming in the clear blue waters. La Palma – the next island on the itinerary – was a joy to explore thanks to its gorgeous gardens and striking, varied landscapes, while Gran Canaria’s year-round warmth ensures it always a great place to top-up your tan, especially on the fine beaches of Maspalomas. Lanzarote has always been a popular holiday destination and you’ll soon understand why when you discover the abundance of unforgettable experiences on offer. During the day-long stay in Arrecife guests had the chance to set off into the Timanfaya National Park to see the hissing rocks of Fire Mountains; visit astonishing saltwater lagoons; and wander through unique cactus gardens.
